Node/% - overriding exsisting path?!?!?

Question: 

Hi all,

Sorry I m a complete newbie to all this design , coding etc, and am having difficulty following some of the steps
1) Cre`ate a panel page
2)choose a layout
3)Name th epannel profile
4)Set the path to node/%
4leave all advance settings
( Pg 48, Chapter 4, User Profiles )
However when i set the path to node/% I keep getting an error "That path is already in used. This system cannot override existing paths." This is a terms I am unfamiliar with. Hoping someone can shed some light on what i should do am using panels 6.x-3.0-beta4 and CTools 1.0 beta4.

Would greatly appricate any advice or help that anyone may give may give,

Take a look at this post, basically , doriens book is based on a certain version of panels + ctools but now ,after a few updates of those modules, the way you have to set parameters have changed. Theres a big disccussion at this post so take a look aroung so we dont have to copy + paste xD
