I was considering various concepts for an educational/social networking website, and was thinking about views, panels, etc; and I came up with a concept. This is most likely something that has been done, but oh well.

In essence, this is a page within the main website. Each major content (i.e.-dogs on a pet website), would have a page that looks like the above. Almost a site within a site. The Menu and various items are easily done using panels, but the one issue I'm having trouble with is the content in the middle.

Why? Because I want it to change when someone clicks one of the links on the menu to the left, instead of the page refreshing, the new content simply appears in the middle column. I assume this can be done somehow.

Suggestions?
