Question:

Dorien,
Does your new book "Building Drupal 7 Community Sites" show how to make multiple user registration pages with different layouts for each user? I love the Drupal 6 Ultimate Community Site Guide 1st edition but it didn't specify how to make multiple registration pages with separate layouts for different users. Thanks for making these books!

Wow, more than a year and there is no response to this question...
I'm also interested in this book, Dorien, as it seems D7 doesn't have any user-freindly, non-programmers way to build rich user profile pages...
I assume in your new book you don't use Content profile module anymore. But the module successor (Profile2) is very controversial in the web space and I'm relly curious how you've managed to achieve this task.

It's really, really strange for me that D7 didn't pay strong attention to options for custom user profile pages.

Thanks for querying about it. The D7 book has some delay, because I did not want to put it out before enough modules are stable and working. Making a community has indeed always been very unstraightforward in Drupal, which I too think is very strange...

If you are interested in a D7 book, let me know here so I am motivated to start writing at night :-)

Hi Dorien,
Well, what I can say? Go for it. :)
Actually, I'm diving deeper and deeper into D7 "ocean", but since I am a business person and not technical one, it's taking me too much time.
As most people today I have my internet idea and I have enough money to buy books and not enough to buy a developer :)
My project was estimated by two independent developer's houses around 10k to 15k in USD - this is too much for me.
Nevertheless, I am not a person who will quit easily and I am digging in the endless chaos of drupal.org discussions.
Glad that you are on the same opinion - everything today on the web is around the User and Drupal still has big room for improvement in this perspective.
Write your book, show how to make flexible, rich and editable by users Profile pages and I'll buy your book, even if the price is 100 USD. :)
And judging by all discussions on the net regarding this topic, probably I'll not be the only person who will buy your book.
Good luck and all the best!

4. Go Dorien!

You know, I just read the v.6 book which is how I came to be here and it was amazingly helpful. I really do look forward to reading your v.7 book--I see if can now be pre-ordered on Amazon.Com but I am hoping that there will be a Kindle version!
